Mothering Sunday

Puppets

St Columba’s pulled out all the stops for Mothering Sunday.

The church was full to maximum capacity for the morning family service of worship.  The numbers of church members and adherents were swelled by the 4th Tynemouth Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, and the 1st North Shields Brownies and Rainbows, and their families.  Each of the uniformed organisations connected with St Columba’s was well represented, and their flags and banners were paraded to the front of the church.

The service included a musical puppet show on a theme of love, provided by some of the church’s young people and helpers.  The Revd Liz Blair then asked the congregation to share reasons to be thankful for mothers.  She also encouraged us all to be peacemakers in all sorts of ways, in line with the Bible reading from Matthew’s Gospel, chapter 5.  One of the young people led the singing of Make me a Channel of Your Peace, beginning with a solo, which he sang very clearly and from memory.

Fellowship continued as usual in the church hall after the service, with coffee, tea and orange juice.
