St Columba’s celebrated the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity with a service with a difference.

Worship was led by one of our young people, and began with a video of a rapper telling the Gospel in 4 minutes. The theme came from the Old Testament book of the prophet Micah (6:8b), …what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. The third of these principles was enacted in a short sketch, showing that true happiness comes by listening, using your talents to live your faith, and walking humbly with your God, rather than necessarily by seeking fame and fortune. The second principle was illustrated after making a list of ways in which we often do wrong, and covering a wooden cross in small pieces of paper on which we had written one person forgiven and one good deed to be done. We were reminded that it is through the cross of Jesus that sins are forgiven, and mercy shown. The first principle was demonstrated with a “pyramid of justice”. Although there may be many injustices in the world, it can seem hard to make any difference, but if one person takes one action and asks two friends to do the same, and they each ask two friends to join, the number of people working for justice quickly increases.

It was a service that gave us much to reflect on.
