Eco Matters: Tips from A Rocha

This is the ninth in a series of articles from the Eco Church Team at St Columba’s, which are also published in our church magazine.

A Rocha UK is a Christian charity working to protect and restore the natural world and committed to equipping Christians and churches in the UK to care for the environment.  Here I share some of the tips from A Rocha about how we can, in some small part, tackle climate change in our own homes.

You can reduce your heating bill by testing how draughty or leaky your home is.

Find the gaps that let the cold air in and the warm air out.  Think about keyholes, letterboxes, gaps around the edges or bottoms of windows and doors, loft hatches and floorboards.  Using the correct materials can fix these gaps.

Now is also a very good time to prepare for winter by sticking tin foil or radiator panels between the wall and radiator, as these will help reflect heat back into your room during the colder months.

If you have any tips of your own, please do pass them on to the Eco Team so that we can share them more widely.
