Remembrance Sunday 2019

Cross of poppies

At our Remembrance service, our minister, Revd Trevor Jamison, gave out fragrant sprigs of rosemary for remembrance.  A poppy wreath was hung on our First World War memorial, and we kept two minutes silence.  We placed poppy crosses in a large cruciform display, remembering all those connected with our church who had died in war, and photographs were shown as the names were read out.

We reflected on the need to seek peace, to be reconciled, and treat everyone as equal.  At one of our ministerial training colleges, British and German students are listed together on the war memorial, as they had studied together even though they fought on opposite sides in the Second World War.
