St Columba’s celebrated the Queen’s platinum jubilee with a very well-attended special coffee morning on Saturday 4 June, followed by a service of thanksgiving and a faith lunch on Sunday 5 June. Ways were found to include even those who could not attend.
Members had been hard at work beforehand baking cakes and scones and crocheting bunting. The church and garden were decorated with Union flags and red, white and blue bunting and balloons. Inside, there was a display of coronation memorabilia.
Nearly £900 was raised over the weekend in aid of North Tyneside Young Carers, which will be topped up to £1,000 by the church. A cheque will be presented to a representative of the Young Carers at the morning service on Sunday 26 June.
