Sunday 26 January was a joyful occasion – the celebration of the baptism of a baby boy. His young sister and cousins were also at the service. Prayers suitable for such a youthful congregation included building a Duplo wall of thanksgiving. Two of the godparents sang a duet, a harmonious prayer for the child. The baby himself was quiet and contented throughout, and took a watchful interest in the whole proceeding.
Our minister reminded us that the water of baptism marks the beginning of Christian life, and for adults also is a time of repentance – literally turning around a re-orientating your life in the direction that God is leading, towards love for our neighbours and the whole of creation, rather than exploitation.
Members and visitors joined for cake and soft drinks and happy conversation in the hall afterwards.
